Advanced Wastewater UV Treatment Solutions
LED UV-C Systems Ltd. - Advanced Wastewater UV Treatment Solutions
LED UV-C Systems Ltd. leads the way in wastewater UV treatment innovation, offering advanced UV-C LED technology for both municipal and industrial applications. Our UV disinfection systems for wastewater treatment provide a reliable, energy-efficient and mercury-free solution for water disinfection, transforming the way municipalities and industries manage wastewater safety.
Why Choose LED UV Disinfection Systems for Wastewater Treatment?
Mercury-Free and Sustainable: Unlike conventional mercury UV lamps, our LED UV systems operate without using harmful mercury. This results in a safer, environmentally friendly solution that aligns with global moves to phase out mercury, meeting regulatory requirements and contributing to a cleaner future. Additionally, our technology removes the need for specialist disposal of spent mercury lamps, completely eliminating hazardous waste, which simplifies maintenance and reduces overall operational costs.

Energy Savings: Our 280 nm LED UV reactors have demonstrated significant energy efficiency compared to traditional UV systems in wastewater applications. In a study carried out by Dalhousie University in Halifax, Novia Scotia our 280 nm LEDs achieved the same level of disinfection as traditional 254 nm mercury lamps, but at significantly lower fluence levels. Specifically, the 280 nm LEDs achieved equivalent microbial log reduction at fluence levels of 20 mJ/cm², compared to the 40 mJ/cm² required for the 254 nm mercury lamps. This reduced energy requirement resulted in up to a 43.4% reduction in power consumption.

Additionally, the shift from mercury lamps to LED UV disinfection technology has profound implications for environmental sustainability. With the capability to adjust light output according to the specific requirements of the water matrix, our systems provide dynamic and efficient disinfection, reducing unnecessary energy consumption during periods of low disinfection demand. Furthermore, the long operational life of LEDs, coupled with the ability to power off during non-operational times, makes our UV-C LED systems a perfect fit for reducing operational costs and environmental impact in municipal and industrial wastewater facilities.

Improved Disinfection Performance: Traditional UV disinfection systems using low-pressure mercury lamps emit at a fixed wavelength of 254 nm. Our 280 nm UV LED systems achieve effective disinfection performance, particularly in challenging wastewater matrices, due to the longer wavelength and higher UV transmittance at 280 nm. This wavelength is less prone to scattering and absorption by organic materials, resulting in higher UV transmittance and enabling effective inactivation of harmful pathogens at significantly lower energy inputs.

Reduced Fouling and Maintenance: One of the unique benefits of our UV-C LED technology is the reduced fouling of the quartz sleeve. Unlike mercury lamps that generate considerable heat within the quartz sleeve, our LEDs reject heat at the rear of the diode, which means the quartz sleeve remains the same temperature as the water passing through the reactor. This significantly reduces mineral precipitation, such as calcium and magnesium build-up, on the quartz surface, resulting in longer intervals between cleaning and reduced maintenance activity. Moreover, changing our LED packs is much simpler than replacing multiple mercury lamps and quartz sleeves, with a significant reduction in the risk of sleeve fracture and the associated labour costs.

Flexible and Scalable Solutions: LED UV systems are modular and scalable, making them ideal for full-scale municipal and industrial applications in wastewater UV disinfection treatment. A PearlAqua Tera 280 nm UV LED reactor was part of a full-scale deployment for municipal wastewater treatment, achieving over 3-log reduction in total coliforms, demonstrating the effectiveness of our UV disinfection wastewater treatment systems. The largest model of the PearlAqua Tera can treat peak flow rates of up to 950 m³ per hour, making our technology ideal for adapting to varying flow rates and disinfection challenges in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.
